The flower in question is a Forget-me-not. One theory is that the poem of the same name, by McGonagall1, is the story upon which AnoHana is loosely based2. McGonagall's Gem, Abridged In the poem, a knight falls into a river after foolishly leaping over a river to fetch his betrothed a flower which she asked for, then realizing he couldn't swim (...while ...

I don't think it was explained in the series but one of the things most people assume is that Menma returns because she wants her wish fulfilled. This, in turn, could mean that once her wish is fulfilled, she leaves. So the assumption is that she disappears because her wish was fulfilled, but what if her return didn't have anything to do with her wish (or ...

As Senshin already mentions. It is never explicitly stated how Menma died exactly. However certain events, and symbolisms do hint towards how she most likely did die. The most common one being the slipper next to the river bank, implying that she fell/drowned in the river. During the anime there were several events hinting to this happening as well. Poppo ...

A misanga is a type of handicraft good luck charm, similar in concept to friendship bracelets, they are typically made from knotted embroidery floss, thread, gimp, or similar material. Like friendship bracelets, they are tied together by simple knots. It is said that if you make a wish when you tie the ends together, your wish will come true when the ...

After a bit of searching on the Japanese internet, I found an explanation that makes so much sense that it almost must be right. That said, I haven't found official material to back this up,1 so this may yet be incorrect. Here's the deal: "Tetsudou", written 鉄道, means "railway". "Poppo" (ぽっぽ) is a childish/onomatopoetic word for a steam train (see e.g. the ...

Well, now that the BD is out, I went back and checked. Here's how it goes down: 生まれ変わったら、何になろう? If I get reincarnated, what could I be? お花になろう。蝶々になろう。蟻ん子になろう。お芋になろう。 I could be a flower, or a butterfly, or an ant, or a potato. 何になっても大丈夫だよ。だってね。 No matter what I become, I'll be okay. You know why? 超平和バスターズはずーっと仲良しだから! Because the Super Peace Busters are ...

Transcript: めんまに[謝]{あやま}りたいから、お[願]{ねが}い[叶]{かな}えようって[思]{おも}ってた I want to apologize to Menma, so I think my wish has been granted. いつからか... いつからか、[私]{わたし}... じんたいが[好]{す}き Since when... Since (who knows) when... I fell in love with Jintai. いつからか means “since some time or another; since who-knows-when”, but I am not very sure how to put it to make ...

Her notes are translated in the fansub version of the episode (click on the images to enlarge): Here is my own translation of the notes, since the fansub translation above missed some of the characters, resulting in slight deviation of meaning: 違うっての やってねー!! It's not like that. I didn't do it!! 勝手なこと ぬかすな!!! Don't just say whatever you want!!! (?)遠に黙れ!! ...

I'm not sure if it is supposed to be Hindi or Sanskrit(because both use devagiri script and the word is there in both the languages), The word is 'Dharmayug', which means the age of righteousness or somewhere along that. Also the word is another word for Satyayug which is one of the 4 ages of the Hindu Mythology. More specifcally the first age. Age of truth....

Jintan still has romantic feelings toward her, as do the other male characters. There are also some scenes (at least one, and I think more) where Menma is sitting on Jintan's crotch and moving around, which naturally gives him nosebleeds and at least once causes him to pass out. The implication is that she has no clue what kind of effect this has on him ...

According to sentido's and Ashray's answer about the meaning of Dharmayug, Dharma and Yug, we can interpret the creator's intention to imply that their friendship was beyond space(cosmos) and time. That's why the poster was put underneath the "Secret base" carving (their "Secret base" friendship was beyond space and time): Beyond Space Menma was a ghost, ...

'Dharmayug' It is a combination of two words- Dharma + Yug Dharma stands for eternal law of cosmos, your actions basically. Yug is basically a period of time. As Ashray mentioned, it can be translated to the age of righteousness. I still can't find the symbolism though

It's easy, her wish was to spend more time with the Super Peace Busters. She reunited them and made them honest to each other that's why in the very last episode she was slowly disappearing, because all of them knew what everyone was hiding from each other. Menma's wish was to reunite the Super Peace Busters, to really hear what Jinta has to say, before ...

Poppo is the Japanese equivalent of the English "Choo-choo" both which are onomatopoetic words for a steam locomotive, derived from the sound it makes. It is pronounced Poe-poe, not Pop-oh. I know this because I have visited a railway and museum for tourists in Japan named "Poppo Town".

All of these references point to similar ideas. Erased, Anohana and Death Note all have similar plot lines dealing with death: Erased 29 year old Satoru Fujinuma is sent back in time 18 years to prevent the events leading to his mother's death, which began with a series of kidnappings in his 5th grade year. Anohana Five childhood companions reunite when ...

I don't have a copy on hand to check, but according to the Death Note Wiki: "in Death Note 13: How to Read, Tsugumi Ohba states that there was no underlying reason for his choice of apples. He is quoted as saying that he liked the way the red apples contrast with Ryuk's dark appearance." So so much for that idea. Doesn't surprise anyone. A lot of ...

Forbidden fruit - Death Note makes many references to Christianity. The apple is popularly thought to be the forbidden fruit in Genesis, which the snake told Eve would make her smarter, open her eyes, and elevate her to the status of God. ... Eating the apple was the Original sin and the first symbol of temptation. Here is an answer to a similar question. ...

It is revealed through flashbacks that Poppo was really quiet and shy when the accident happened. According to his flashbacks (assuming that they are accurate), he actually did see Menma drown; however, he could not do anything to help her because he was scared to do anything. This guilt is the main reasons why Poppo decided to travel the world and become ...

Well, it is no exactly said in the anime but, imagine your best friend just died. Moreover, your best friend just died because of you (they all blamed themselves for what happened). Would you be in the mood to have another get-together? Especially when the get-together is with the same group of friends whom you and your best friend have spent so much time ...

There are two routes here: If Menma was a ghost or spirit: We know that she doesn't have any memory of the gap in between her death and her reappearance Thus she was likely in some sort of stasis or limbo, but still aged The major likelihood is that her soul was stuck in the human world because her wish wasn't fulfilled, so she kept aging Alternatively, it'...
