Ascendance of a Bookworm is a light novel series written by Miya Kazuki. A manga and anime adaptation exist. Librarian Urano Motosu dies in an avalanche of books and is reincarnated as the sickly child Myne in a fantasy world. The problem: as a peasant, she has no access to her beloved books. So she becomes determined to make her own.

Myne faces many problems on her quest to make books--some having to do with material and technology, and others with social status. She has many allies in her venture, including her childhood friend Lutz, the merchant Benno, and the priest Ferdinand. Additionally, though Myne single-mindedly pursues reading time, she has other obligations and duties to fulfill, both magical and otherwise.

In order to advance book production and literacy, Myne introduces a barrage of technologies; this series is oftentimes very informative on these matters, giving some real world historical context at times, as well as an explanation for how these technologies work. The series also delves into the social ramifications these technologies so suddenly in its fantasy world.
