Is a "character song" just like a theme song for a character? No! A "character song" is emphatically not the same thing as a "theme song". While there is probably no clear definition of what constitutes a "theme song", the term "character song" has a straightforward definition. That is: a "character song" is a song whose vocals are credited to the ...

The Wikipedia article you linked to is NOT the same Benjamin Anderson who worked on the Kill la Kill soundtrack. They were born in different countries, in different years, and have absolutely nothing else in common. The correct Benjamin Anderson was born in London, UK and currently resides in Japan. It's probably going to be pretty rare for anime soundtracks to be featured with a Vocaloid singer, since the talent tie-ins and money for making anime want to promote their in-house talent so they want to use their own (live) singers. You can see a lot of famous vocaloid producers get hired for their music but instead of the vocaloid voice track, they use in-...

Are the opening/ending themes, insert songs, and background music created specifically for the series they represent, or are they just picked by the producers/production committee based on how well they would fit their series? What typically happens? In most cases, opening/ending themes, insert songs, and background music are created specifically for the ...

Thanks to this MAL post I just found out it's Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor "Quasi una fantasia", popularly known as the Moonlight Sonata's third and last movement, Presto Agitato. Here's a video of the music, played by Wilhelm Kempff. And here another video by one Brandon Ethridge, filmed from the top. This ones makes it look -...

A misanga is a type of handicraft good luck charm, similar in concept to friendship bracelets, they are typically made from knotted embroidery floss, thread, gimp, or similar material. Like friendship bracelets, they are tied together by simple knots. It is said that if you make a wish when you tie the ends together, your wish will come true when the ...

That song is the nursery rhyme "London Bridge is Falling Down," or simply "My Fair Lady." This version that is sung seems to be a variation on the one quoted by Iona and Peter Opie in 1951. London ba shi o chi ru, o chi ru, o chi ru London ba shi o chi ru, My Fair Lady (London Bridge is falling down / Falling down, Falling down. / London Bridge is ...

Adding to my previous comment on the question, the official website now has a page for the "Your Lie in April original song & soundtrack" (「四月は君の嘘 ORIGINAL SONG & SOUNDTRACK」). They have a full listing of the soundtrack there, but you cannot listen to it, nor even preview it. So I did a quick search, and found this Amazon.co.jp page for the cd, where ...

There is a CD release (ESCL-4302) with all the non-original tracks featured in the anime. You can find more info about it on VGMDB. As you can see there, the violinist is Yuna Shinohara (篠原悠那) and the pianists are Tomoki Sakata (阪田知樹) and Eriko Kawachi (河地恵理子). VGMDB also provides scans of the booklet, here is the page showing this information (red ...

The lyrics are clearly from the song Adieu (lyric: Brian Richy, singer: Emily Bindiger): Been a fool, been a clown Lost my way from up and down And I know, yes, I know And I see in your eyes that you really weren't surprised at me At all Not at all And I know by your smile It's you However the singer in episode 18 is male and I ...

seijitsu's answer does a good job of identifying what's going on with most of your examples, though I'll add that "Ch19ヲFIRE★" is meant to be read "Chikyuu wo Kasei" (1 = "i", 9 = "kyuu", "Fire" = 火 = "ka", ★ = 星 = "sei", "kasei" = 火星 = "Mars", but "kasei" also = 加勢 = "reinforcements"), which is something like "Reinforcements to Earth". However, this goes a ...

The mizuki in question is this mizuki. Her personal blogs (in Japanese) are 56番線 on ameblo and note.mu/mizuaoi. Her Twitter handle is @mizukizuiaoi. Please see this answer to the question "Why do some works [anime, manga, novels] have a trailing dot?" for the information about Japanese decorative use of typographical symbols such as 「@」,「&」,「/」, and 「★」. 「零」(rei) is decorative but also accomplishes a clever play-on-words. Rei means "zero" and the number 0 looks like the English capital letter O, so ...

An anime's soundtrack is usually made specific for the show. The same cannot always be said about the anime's opening or ending themes, though. When it comes to producing an anime, multiple companies work together to make a show happen; these multiple companies make up what's called a Production Committee. Depending upon the show, a show's production ...

Disregard my comment on the OP; this song is on the first OST. It is called Kyojin Shinkou (track 9, also titled as "凸】♀】♂】←巨人"), and the part you asked about starts around 0:50 into the song. Unfortunately, I cannot find a YouTube video or any other legal source of the track, and the OST itself is very expensive.

Jon Lin's answer is good, so I don't think I have anything to add in that direction. As he says, using Vocaloid singers for songs of full-length anime (rather than animated music videos) is rather uncommon. It sometimes happens that a Vocaloid singer will be used in early stages of production, but by the time they are ready to release the song it's usually ...

It's a coping/protection mechanism - when he plays the piano, his negative feelings from his past resurface, and his mind blocks him from hearing sounds that have a negative (as in Psychological Conditioning Principals) association in his mind. How exactly this manifests for him is made fairly clear in the anime - if you watch the scenes again where he's ...
