This is it! I can't believe it! Wealth and glory to you! Thank you! I would have never figured out that "Delpower" was supposed to be one word.

@Etheur thanks, that was one of the first places I checked, and I didn't find anything memory-jogging.

comment Why are the protagonists generally seated by the window?
It's definitely a plot device. There more interesting scenarios if the character has access to a window (sees what's going on outside), 3 neighbors, and isn't overly distracted by the teacher..

@JavidPack The convention was Anime North, but I can't recall the year. Possibly 2007 or 2008. I don't believe it was Nuku Nuku.

comment Why do Spirited Away, Ponyo, and Arrietty have so much in common?
Right, which is why I said "shouldn't". The biggest market for your standard anime is going to be young males. That's just how it is, they buy more manga and watch more cartoons. Miyazaki focuses on female protagonists because he is able to make something that won't lose the default audience, but will add to the under-targeted demographic. It's not a sure-fire easy win of course, which is why it takes a genius like Miyazaki to really capitalize on it.

I'd like to point out that the "girl hero" element shouldn't really be all that defining. It represents 50% of the choices.

comment Why does Abel Nightroad's hair stick up?
Because when people change forms it's popular to give them spiky hair. Ala DBZ.

comment Why is “Cowboy Bebop” almost unheard of in Japan?
Cowboy Bebop is/was not more popular here. Perhaps among anime fans specifically as it was one of the small fraction of titles making it to Cartoon Network.
